Title: Treaty/Language/Culture CoordinatorLocation: Tribal Chiefs Area in Northeastern AlbertaStart Date: August 1, 2025Term of Employment: Contract on daily basisApplication Deadline: Open until filledRemuneration: Negotiable based on education and experienceTribal Chiefs Education Foundation is seeking a dynamic and self-motivated individual to fill the role of Treaty/Language/Culture Coordinator. As an advisory organization, TCEF serves and supports the schools of the 6 member First Nations of Heart Lake, Beaver Lake, Whitefish Lake 128, Kehewin, Frog Lake and Cold Lake. As a contractor, the successful candidate will work in collaboration with the Literacy, Numeracy, and Land-Based Education coordinators under the direct supervision of the TCEF Education Director. PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF WORK – the successful candidate will work with educators and school administrators, students, and members of the TCEF SLS (second level services) team in the following deliverables:Establish and maintain a vibrant Cree/Dene language teacher/instructor cohort through regularly scheduled in-person and virtual meetings and training sessions Uphold and honor the supports outlined in the TCEF Education Success Plan 2023-28Provide training opportunities in the area of language acquisition and retention based on models and tools supported by researchEstablish and maintain a network of people identified as experts/knowledge keepers of Cree/Dene languageAssist in infusing and embedding cultural standards in all aspects of school lifeAssist in the implementation of First Nation history, treaty, and culture in schools for teachers, administrators, parents and studentsAssist in the planning of the annual TCEF Institute DaySubmit and present a final comprehensive SLS report to the TCEF Board of Directors at the conclusion of each school year Maintain self-generated work plan and self-monitor progress, activities and outputsEstablish and maintain inventory of professionals available to train teachers/instructors in the language, treaty and cultureCoordinate and implement treaty/language/culture activities that will support and further enhance learning such as immersion camps and treaty education campsSupport language teachers/instructors with resources such as books, manuals, teaching aids and kits including audio and visualAssist with the land-based education program when schedule permitsQUALIFICATIONS:In possession of a valid Alberta teaching licenseBachelor of Education Master of Education specializing in Indigenous languages would be an assetFluency in oral and written Indigenous languageKnowledge of Cree/Dene culture, history, and treatyKnowledge and experience with protocols and processes working with Cree and Dene First NationsProven successful teaching experienceProficiency of understanding the Alberta Education Programs of StudyAbility to work with little or no supervisionMust have strong communication, writing and organizational skillsProven experience in designing, planning and facilitating professional development for teachers/instructors would be a definite assetMust submit a current Vulnerable Sector Check (RCMP) and Intervention Record Check (Child and Family Services)TO APPLY:Submit cover letter, resume, 3 references, VSC and IRC to:Russell HunterEducation Director of Tribal Chiefs Education FoundationPO Box 1198 St. Paul, Alberta T0A 3A0Email Russell.hunter@tcef.ca or Sonja.Bystrom@tcef.caOnly those selected will be contacted.
