Then we have the opportunity for you as our Learning Commons Coordinator! Our Learning Commons (Library) encourages students to become life-long learners. We promote literacy in all its forms and nurture reading and thinking in order to foster both self-knowledge and global awareness.  The Learning Commons Co-ordinator oversees the daily operations of the Learning Commons (Library) area, focusing on creating a welcoming environment that is conducive to learning. They collaborate with community members to co-create resource guides and recommend resource materials for classes, affinity groups and councils. Collaborating with other Learning Commons staff, they identify the necessary information technology competencies and information literacy skills and work with faculty to weave those skills into the curriculum.   What You’ll Do:Promotes information literacy and digital citizenship in all individual and group interactionsSupports students in developing research skills, advises and assists students in selecting appropriate resources, demonstrates search strategies for databases, ebooks, the ILS (Destiny), and the internetHelp students troubleshoot technology and use academic resources for homework and projectsPatron assistance: supports students, staff, and faculty in all information needsProvides reader’s advisory to students, faculty and staff, and promotes recreational reading through displays, special collections and reading programsOrganizes, plans, and hosts LC events in support of literacy, innovation, and belongingOversees the physical LC space, collaborating with faculty and student groups in showcasing student work, organizing displays and special eventsCollaborates on selection, ordering and coordinating with all key stakeholdersMaintains and updates all facets of the library websiteOversees processing of all materialsInventory managementWeedingSupplementary catalogingWho You Are:Undergraduate in a related disciplineGraduate of a Library Technician Program Strong knowledge of reading materials, both curriculum-related and recreational, appropriate for Middle School and Senior School studentsCompetence in the effective use of online Library databases, and other digital and online resourcesKeen interest and understanding of emerging technologiesAdvanced familiarity with library OPACs, library automation and ILA modulesExcellent interpersonal skills in order to work well with staff and studentsEffective team player and ability to work independently with interruptionsPhysical ability to perform shelving dutiesWhy Work at BSS?At BSS, we value and recognize the following core competencies in our employees; trust and integrity, collaboration, flexibility and adaptability, initiative, community focused and strong communication skills.
