You can contribute to that success while building your career.Nature and ScopeThe Director, Academic Development provides strategic and operational leadership for the integrated functions of quality assurance (QA), instructional design, curriculum development, Instructor training, and academic analysis across SIIT. This role ensures that all academic programs are designed and delivered in alignment with SIIT's standards, Indigenous values, and regulatory requirements. The Director oversees the Academic Development Department, facilitating collaboration across departments and ensuring continuous improvement, compliance, and innovation. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate.General AccountabilityThis position serves in a leadership role amongst a team of senior administrative and academic professionals reporting directly to the Vice-President, Academics. The Director supervises the development, maintenance, and evaluation of SIIT's instructional design, curriculum development, instructor training, and academic analysis. This position is responsible for the overall planning, budgeting and organization of priorities and activities of the Academic Development unit.The Director is responsible for ensuring the continuous monitoring, review, development, and renewal of curricula at SIIT. The Director works closely with department leaders and administrative staff to lead and facilitate curriculum development, management, and renewal processes. The Director supports curriculum renewal by actively researching curricular trends and makes recommendations consistent with the Institute's academic policies, delivery models, and established frameworks. This position includes the following broad range of accountability:Specific AccountabilitiesLeadership & AdministrationLead and manage the Academic Development team, including QA, instructional design, curriculum writing, and learning management system coordination rolesOversee implementation of the Quality Assurance Framework, Comprehensive Program Reviews (CPR) and Post-Delivery Program Reviews (PDPR) cycles, and program development processesSupport academic departments in achieving high instructional quality and curricular relevanceEnsure integration of Indigenous pedagogies, universal design for learning (UDL), and culturally grounded design across programsCollaborate with Deans, Program Coordinators, and Senior Leadership to align academic quality with strategic planningRepresent the Academic Development function at institutional committees and external forums related to accreditation, compliance, and qualityOversee professional development initiatives for faculty and curriculum teamsMaintain effective communication, reporting structures, and data transparency across all Academic Development operationsProvide direction, leadership and advice to faculty, staff and administrators on design, implementation and maintenance of assessment processes focused on program learning outcomes and other measures of institutional effectivenessCommunicate changes in curriculum and program standards to affected internal stakeholders and assist with implementationManage, maintain, and revise the catalog regarding curriculum, course descriptions, and other relevant instructional pagesDesign and manage the annual program review process in coordination with Deans and Vice President, AcademicsCoordinate the systematic review and evaluation of the curriculum and assessment functional area, including the development and monitoring of outcomes and plans of action for improvement based on the assessment of those outcomes and plans Data Management & AnalysisSupervise the technical aspect of assessment, including design of databases, data collection and analysis of data related to the assessment planPlan, organize, conduct and analyze reports and assessment resultsManage all paperwork and electronic activities to process all course changes for submission to the Office of the RegistrarProvide direction to faculty, staff and administrators in gathering, storing, analyzing and interpreting assessment data for their specific units/areasEffectively analyze and define data to identify possible issues, establish facts, and draw valid conclusionsProofreading and maintain accuracy in all college documents related to curricula and assessments Resource AllocationEnsures resources are allocated in accordance with the financial planning and operating budgetDevelops and manages the curriculum budget in accordance with department objectivesMonitor progress in related meeting objectives, project plans and priorities as set out in SIIT's Strategic PlanDevelop innovative solutions to resource challenges while ensuring alignment with and support of strategic goalsPeople Management & LeadershipCoach, train and develop employees to ensure growth and development of those individualsConduct regular reviews with direct reports; ensure adherence to SIIT policies and proceduresEnsure a positive, diverse, inclusive work and learning environmentAssist in building and leading the department through employee selectionAttend and positively contribute during staff, department, and Institute meetingsAdhere to and promote academic regulations and SIIT policies and proceduresFoster a positive, collaborative and professional working relationship among students, coworkers and partners across the InstituteRequired Qualifications and Experience: Master's degree in Education or related field with a focus on Academic Leadership, Curriculum Development, and Administration. Minimum 5 years of experience in academic operations, instructional design, or quality assurance. Demonstrated leadership in Indigenous education and post-secondary policy or curriculum. Strong understanding of program accreditation, QA systems, and learning design.
