Mistawasis Nehiyawak High School – High School Cree Teacher OpportunityAre you passionate about language revitalization and cultural education? Mistawasis Nehiyawak is seeking a dedicated, knowledgeable, and culturally grounded individual to join our team as a High School Cree Teacher at Mistawasis Nehiyawak High School, located in Mistawasis Nehiyawak First Nation, Saskatchewan.About the RoleUnder the guidance of the School Principal, the High School Cree Teacher will play a key role in teaching and promoting the Cree language, culture, and traditions within the school and the community. This position requires a fluent Cree speaker who can engage students in language learning while incorporating cultural teachings and land-based learning opportunities.Beyond classroom instruction, the High School Cree Teacher will:Develop and deliver engaging Cree language lessons tailored to various proficiency levels.Integrate cultural teachings, oral traditions, and land-based learning into lesson plans.Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages students to embrace and use the Cree language.Collaborate with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community members to enhance cultural education.Provide students with opportunities to practice Cree language skills through conversation, storytelling, songs, and activities.Develop assessments and evaluations to track student progress in language acquisition.Organize and participate in cultural events, ceremonies, and language initiatives to promote Cree language revitalization.Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate effectively with students, parents, guardians, and school staff.Qualifications & RequirementsWe are looking for candidates who are passionate about language preservation, cultural education, and student success, with the following qualifications:Bachelor of Education Degree with a specialization in Indigenous Education, Cree Language, or an equivalent degreeFluency in Plains Cree (Y dialect preferred) or another Cree dialectExperience teaching Cree language and culture at the high school levelStrong classroom management and instructional skillsAbility to integrate Indigenous ways of knowing and teaching into the curriculumEffective communication and relationship-building skills with students, families, and the communityA Criminal Record Check & Vulnerable Sector Check (required)Valid Standard First Aid & CPR certificationKnowledge and understanding of First Nation communities, culture, and education systemsWhy Join Us? As a High School Cree Teacher at Mistawasis Nehiyawak High School, you will have the unique opportunity to strengthen language revitalization efforts, inspire students, and contribute to the preservation of Cree culture.
