Sturgeon Lake School is looking for a highly motivated Special Education teacher for the 2025-2026 school year.We pride ourselves in offering Cree language (nehiyawewin) at our school and believe in the power of culture in education. As a school we provide professional development opportunities and ensure that our staff is always growing and developing in their profession as educators.We are looking for hard-working teachers who are team players, positive role models, and are dedicated to quality education in the community. A successful candidate would recognize the importance of differentiated instruction and adapt their instruction to meet the needs of their students. The successful applicant will understand the importance of relationships and bring with them the ability to relate with all staff, students and the community of Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation.The successful candidate for this position must have specialized training in Special Needs Education and be willing to provide services to children K - 12.  Here are some requirements of this position which include but are not limited to the following:Assess students’ skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plans for students in moderate-severe school programming at Sturgeon Lake School.Assist certificated staff to learn how to adapt lessons to meet the needs of students in their classesHelp certificated staff develop Individualized Program Plans (IPPs) for each student who is identified as Special Needs in their class and monitor the certificated staff member's work in meeting the identified goals of the IPP.Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities as identified in the IPP.Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one as required with the moderate-severe classes at the school.Implement IPPs, assess students’ performance, and track their progress and report on same (complete and monitor the SPED report)Update IPPs throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress and goals.Discuss student’s progress with parents, teachers, and Principal.Supervise and mentor educational assistants and certificated staff who work with students with learning severe disabilitiesPrepare and help students transition from grade to grade
