Nunavut schools are currently focused on improving literacy outcomes for all students and ensuring students’ learning experiences are culturally relevant and respectful.Located in the picturesque hamlet of Gjoa Haven, Qiqirtaq High School serves the community of Gjoa Haven. The school has a population of approximately 180 students in a 7-12 setting with a staff of 24. The school and community are steeped in a rich history of Inuit culture.Required qualifications:Bachelor of Education degree or pending degreeTeaching certification acceptable for Nunavut teaching certificateIn the event that this competition becomes an open until filled posting, this position may be offered as a one year term under Letter of Authority. Desired qualifications:Experience in numeracy learning continuum across developmental levels that embraces conceptual understanding of mathematics concepts to strengthen overall understandingExperience in collaborative support of colleagues in the effective creation, implementation and use of differentiated instruction strategies to explore mathematics in a hands on environmentExperience with formative and summative assessment implementation, reporting and analysisExperience planning, directing, facilitating and/or reviewing peer workshops and professional development modules for adult learnersExperience in modeling and/or coaching instructional strategies for teachersEvidence/experience building positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, stakeholdersTeaching experience in an ESL environment Cross-cultural and/or northern teaching experience Please note: Subsidized housing is available; however, sharing may be required.The salary for certified teachers ranges from $75,928 prorated/annum. to $142,955 prorated/annum.The Northern Allowance for Gjoa Haven is $26,345 prorated/annum.The Department of Education, Kitikmeot School Operations is committed to:The promotion of the Inuit language of the community, and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (Inuit Societal Values)Local control of EducationInclusive EducationResiliency, adaptability and resourcefulness are assets to employment and northern life.Applications must be emailed (Word Document or PDF file) to kitsostaffing@gov.nu.ca  Note: Attachments over 10mb and Google Docs will not be accepted.Ensure that the subject line of your email states the Reference #09-8244.
