Nunavut schools are currently focused on improving literacy outcomes for all students and ensuring students’ learning experiences are culturally relevant and respectful.  Located in the picturesque hamlet of Coral Harbour, Sakku School serves the community of Coral Harbour. The school has a population of approximately 315 students in a K-12 setting with a staff of 39. The school and community are steeped in a rich history of Inuit culture. Required qualifications:  ·         Bachelor of Education Degree (Special Education Certificate/degree or equivalent courses)·         Teaching certification acceptable for Nunavut teaching certificate·         A minimum of three years teaching experience·         Experience supervising staff (student support assistants) who support students with profound needs·         Experience developing and implementing individual student support and behaviour plans in cooperation with classroom teachers Desired qualifications: Minimum of three years in the role of Special education/student support teacherExperience in collaborative support to students in the effective implementation of formative assessment and differentiated instructionPositive school environment approaches to classroom management (eg. Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior SupportsExperience with Balanced Literacy StrategiesExperience in modeling and/or leading professional learning communitiesEvidence / experience in developing and implementing individual education plans for students with exceptionalities in a collaborative contextTeaching experience in an ESL environment·         Cross-cultural and/or northern teaching experience·         Effective communication skills.·         Experience working as a collegial member of the overall school team and plan for students using a collaborative approach.  Please note: Government housing may be provided and sharing may be required.
