This individual, along with the members of the Learning Strategies Department, will work closely with teachers to develop and implement strategies for student success. This individual will also ensure that all stakeholders have a good understanding of how best to support students in meeting their learning goals. Along with being a learning strategies teacher, this individual will also be asked to be a Teacher Advisor each day and will have opportunities to be involved in the co-curricular and extra-curricular activities that enhance students’ experiences at school. Qualifications: Bachelor of Education"¨British Columbia Teachers certification or equivalent"¨Special Education qualifications and experience"¨Five years teaching experience in Humanities subjects is an asset"¨Three years experience in the role of a Learning Services/Resource Teacher in a Senior School "¨Experience teaching students with specific needs, including learning disabilities and giftedness, and meeting the diverse behavioural and emotional needs of studentsKnowledge of computer/assistive technologies for learningKnowledge of BC Special Education policies and guidelines"¨Student-based coaching and co-teaching experience an asset"¨ Knowledge, Skills and Experience:Strong knowledge of British Columbia curriculum and pedagogy"¨Demonstrated experience as a dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic educatorCollaborative and flexible, supportive and effective team-player"¨Ability to develop strong professional relationships with all stakeholders"¨Strong interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills"¨Expertise in a wide range of teaching and learning strategies"¨Ability to co-plan with teachers to ensure students’ needs are being addressed effectively in the program and in all assessments"¨Demonstrated experience assisting classroom teachers in providing appropriate accommodations to meet the needs of the students"¨Knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of special needs"¨Demonstrated experience with the administration and interpretation of standardized, norm-referenced assessment instruments to Level B"¨Demonstrated ability to oversee and contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of an IEP in consultation with classroom teachers, parents, students, and community resource personnel"¨Demonstrated experience facilitating sessions on how to help teachers meet students’ diverse needs in the classroom"¨Strong understanding of and experience with pedagogical approaches such as differentiation, triangulated assessment, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL)Committed to continuous professional growth and improvement"¨ Faculty at York House are provided with the following:A diverse and inclusive work environmentSmall class sizes and time for planning and working collaborativelyAccess to exceptional resourcesA robust peer Mentorship ProgramCompetitive compensation and benefits package
