Learning Assistance Teacher (1.0 FTE)  The K’ak’ot’lats’i School is looking for an individual with strong academic and interpersonal skills who is willing to contribute to our team and overall school success.   The K’ak’ot’lats’i School works in conjunction with the Quatsino Band Council (QBC) to provide superlative educational experiences for its members. (See current SD#85 salary grid).Benefits as per QBC Group Plan with option to enrol in medical, dental, extended health and group life insurancePension plan contributions matched by employer based on FTEBC Medical Service Plan (MSP) reimbursed  The Learning Assistance Teacher (LAT) will: • Develop and implement Individualized Educational Programs for identified students, which addresses the educational needs of students (i.e. students with mild to severe behavioural disabilities, social/emotional, educational, and prevocational/vocational skill deficits).  • Collect baseline data relative to student’s social/emotional, educational and vocational skills utilizing standardized tests, teacher-made tests, and behavioural observation procedures.• Develop appropriate learning plans to meet the unique needs of at-risk students in an alternative setting.• Collect data on student progress at regular intervals.• Develop and maintain an effective records management system, which reflects accurate and current data on student performance.  • Redefine and modify instructional goals, objectives, and intervention strategies as needed.• Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, during the assessment, planning, implementation, and transition phases of a student’s program.• Assist with the de-escalation and physical management of students in crisis according to established program procedures.• Communicate on an ongoing basis with staff regarding student progress and works with educational staff to facilitate successful inclusion of students into the regular classroom setting.• Communicate with parents and/or other individuals involved in the care of the student on a regular basis regarding student progress and relevant issues.• Keep abreast of new curricula/instructional strategies to meet student needs. Qualifications: Special Education Certificate, Special Education Diploma, B.Ed or B.Ed Degree in Special Education with experience working in special education.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted which provides the skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position requirements.    Additional Qualifications and Experience Experience and skills teaching in both primary and intermediate levelsStrong literacy and numeracy backgroundWillingness to participate in and implement school-wide initiatives and goals Experience with adapting and modifying curriculum to meet the specific needs of studentsCommitted to individualized and group instruction utilizing a variety of effective strategies and techniquesExperience teaching in a multi-age group settingStrong classroom management skills Willingness to work in a collaborative model with staff on the school improvement plan and professional development opportunitiesStrong background in computer related skills and ability to integrate technology into the learning environmentWillingness to work within a team on common school-wide literacy initiativesWilling to travel for professional development opportunitiesWilling to be video coached
