Native Education College (NEC) opened its doors in 1967 and became British Columbia's largest private Indigenous College. NEC’s purpose is to contribute to an Indigenous, holistic experience that positions the Indigenous learner to uphold their responsibility and obligations to their family, and nation of origin as autonomous Peoples. NEC provides culturally relevant education and training for Indigenous Peoples to pursue career aspirations and enhance academic goals in alignment with their diverse cultural identities and traditional knowledge. The NEC longhouse offers access to many resources and in-house support that includes cultural and spiritual support, funding, counselling, and career advising from a culturally authentic lens.Position Summary:NEC is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Dean of Student Services (Leave Replacement) to provide interim leadership and ensure continuity of services during a temporary leave period. This role is responsible for maintaining the quality and effectiveness of student support services, including counselling, cultural programming, student life initiatives, and library services. The Dean provides steady guidance to the Student Services team, supports student well-being, and upholds service standards while exercising sound judgment, confidentiality, and cultural integrity. Working collaboratively with executive leadership, staff, Elders, students, and community partners, this role advances NEC’s mission and Longhouse values throughout the leave coverage period.Specific Accountabilities:• Leading by the values of the longhouse.• Create a welcoming environment for all students, staff and guests of NEC.• Plan, develop, implement, and manage efficient and effective support systems for student servicesincluding library, bookstore, canteen, extra-curricular activities, student-council, cultural andcounselling services.• Oversee student related responsibilities and clarify and resolve student issues and/or policies.• As a member of the management team, plan, implement, and review NEC operations relating tostudent services, and secure funding sources for the department.• Provide supervision, mentorship, and support to Student Services staff, liaising with externalpartners including funding agencies, other post- secondary education institutions, practicumpartners, employers, and multiple stakeholder organizations.• Supervises student support staff including Librarian, Counsellor(s), Cultural Coordinator, FoodService Worker, and oversees budget activity in collaboration with Finance for the student servicesdepartment.• Ensuring that services are delivered in a culturally authentic and responsible manner.• Contributes to the management of NEC and undertakes activities which make a positivecontribution to achieving its overall mission.• Manages available financial resources and accesses new resources by developing programbudgets for core programs and the delivery of programs with community partners across BC.• Leads project teams and assigns, monitors, and evaluates the work of external contractors.• Creates and manages staff workplans, conducts annual performance reviews, and providesregular feedback to direct reports.• Seeks fundraising opportunities and applies for grant monies for extra-curricular programming.• Other longhouse duties as required.Minimum Qualifications:• Master’s degree from an accredited institution and at least three years of senior managementexperience, preferably in a post-secondary setting, or equivalent combination of education andexperience.• Strong cultural knowledge of the local host nations.• Demonstrated capacity to set clear goals and ability to implement them.• Engage in healthy, productive relationships with staff and stakeholders.• Ability to develop and manage a continuous improvement process in service delivery, policydevelopment and student engagement.• Demonstrated leadership ability in developing, presenting, and carrying out workplans.• Ability to develop, interpret and apply multiple levels of internal and external requirements,including policies, procedures, laws, statutes, and organizational bylaws in complex situations.• Demonstrated success in budget/financial administration skills.• Extensive human relations management experience and a demonstrated ability to manage in aunionized environment.• Excellent analytical, organizational, problem-solving, conflict management, changemanagement, interpersonal and communication skills.
