Physical Education Teacher

Sturgeon Lake School is seeking a highly motivated Physical Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. The applicant should have a strong background in planning, developing and deploying a quality daily physical education program to students aged 4 to 19 years of age. The ideal candidate we seek should have a strong desire to be an innovative member of a diverse team of educators on the leading edge of serving First Nation students.  It will be important to be comfortable teaching in a dynamic school environment and have an interest in redefining education.Sturgeon Lake School is located 15 minutes west of Valleyview, Alberta on the Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation. We are a K to 12 school that is dedicated to providing our students with the love and support that they need to be successful. In our school, we incorporate the Cree Culture and Language into each classroom.  Teachers and support staff work together to better the students’ lives both inside and outside of the school. We follow the Alberta Curriculum, but infuse the Cree culture and traditions within our daily teachings. . As a school, we offer after-school sports activities, hosts sports tournaments and participate in Northwest School Athletic Association tournaments. We also prepare our children to participate in Alberta Indigenous Games (AIG), North American Indigenous Games (NAIG)and Arctic Winter Games. As a school we strive to provide training opportunities for our staff to help them continue to develop better teaching practices within their classrooms.  We are looking for teachers who are team players, positive role models and dedicated to continuing their growth as a professional. A successful candidate would recognize the importance of differentiated instruction, adapt their instruction to meet the needs of their students and build relationships with each of their students.  We offer housing subsidy and relocation allowance.
