This role is responsible for supporting the social and emotional development of students. This individual will have opportunities to be involved in the co-curricular activities that enhance studentsÂ’ experiences at school. Qualifications:British Columbia Teachers' certification or equivalent is preferredTeaching experience is an assetMasterÂ’s degree in Counselling Psychology, School Counselling, Social Work (MSW), or an M.Ed. in Counselling PsychologyPrevious counselling experience at the Junior School level is preferredIndependent School experience is an assetCo-curricular experience is an assetKnowledge, Skills and Experience:Work closely with the school leadership team, teachers and parents with respect to studentsÂ’ social and emotional well-beingProvide direct counselling to children and familiesConsult with school staff and parentsLead teacher and parent workshops with respect to social and emotional learning, student mental health and navigating relationshipsParticipate as a member of school-based team meetingsProvide direct instruction to students in areas such as peer helping, conflict resolution, social skills and life skillsProvide support to colleagues who teach Health and Career Education and promote healthy school environmentsAct as liaison with community agencies and allied professionalsAdhere to the ethical standards of the counselling profession and practice in accordance with federal, provincial, and local laws, statutes, and/or policies that relate to students and families, including child protection/child abuse, inclusion education, attendance, education rights and privacyFamiliar with Ministry Coding with respect to behavioural designations and fundingKnowledgeable in counselling children, parents and teachers with respect to ASD, ADHD, and other exceptionalities Knowledge of the current research on girls and learningDemonstrated experience as an enthusiastic, innovative, and caring educator with a commitment to diversity and inclusion in all its many dimensionsCollaborative and flexible, supportive, and effective team-playerAbility to develop strong professional relationships with all stakeholdersExemplary communication and interpersonal skillsStrong organizational and time-management skillsCommitted to continuous professional growth and improvement Â
