Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation EducationChief Aranazhi SchoolPosition: Principal of Grades 7-12  Community ProfileAlexis Nakota Sioux Nation Education currently has two schools in the Nation, Chief Aranazhi School (7-12) and Waka Mne Elementary School (K-6). The successful candidate will be responsible for Chief Aranazhi School. Our Indigenous language is Nakota Sioux (Stoney) and we are located 100 kilometers northwest of the City of Edmonton, 30 minutes from the City of Spruce Grove. Position OverviewThe Principal is responsible for providing visionary, instructional, and operational leadership to ensure a safe, inclusive, and high-quality learning environment for all students. This role emphasizes culturally responsive education grounded in Stoney/Nakota knowledge, language, and community values, while aligning with the Alberta Education curriculum. The Principal will lead staff, support student success, strengthen community partnerships, and ensure effective school operations. Key Responsibilities Instructional LeadershipLead the implementation of high-quality teaching and learning aligned with Alberta curriculum outcomesSupport teacher growth through coaching, supervision, and evaluationPromote culturally responsive and land-based learning approachesMonitor student achievement and implement strategies for continuous improvement School Leadership & OperationsOversee daily school operations, scheduling, and resource allocationEnsure a safe, caring, and inclusive school environmentLead school improvement planning and reportingManage school budget and resources responsibly Staff Supervision & DevelopmentSupervise, mentor, and evaluate teaching and support staffFoster a collaborative, respectful, and accountable workplace cultureSupport professional learning aligned with school and system priorities Student Success & WellbeingPromote student attendance, engagement, and achievementSupport inclusive education practices and diverse learner needsAddress student behavior through restorative and culturally appropriate approaches Community EngagementBuild strong relationships with parents, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community membersEngage community in school planning and cultural programmingRepresent the school in community and organizational meetings Governance & ComplianceEnsure compliance with Board policies, procedures, and applicable legislationWork collaboratively with the Director of Education and Education AuthorityPrepare reports and updates as required QualificationsMaster’s degree in Education (preferred)Valid Alberta Teaching CertificateAlberta Leadership Certification (or willingness to obtain)Minimum 5 years of successful teaching experiencePrevious school leadership experience (Assistant Principal or Principal preferred) Knowledge, Skills & AttributesStrong understanding of First Nations education, culture, and community engagementKnowledge of Alberta curriculum and assessment practicesDemonstrated leadership in school improvement and instructional practiceExcellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skillsAbility to lead change and build collaborative teamsCommitment to student-centered and culturally grounded education RequirementsMeet the Leadership Quality StandardCriminal Record Check with Vulnerable SectorValid Driver’s LicenseFirst Aid/CPR (asset) What We OfferCompetitive salary based on qualifications and experienceComprehensive benefits packagePension plan eligibilityProfessional development opportunitiesOpportunity to make meaningful impact in a First Nations community
