Summary The position is located in the Informal Learning Office of the Center for Learning, Literacy and Engagement Division. The salary range indicated reflects the basic pay adjustment of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. This is a non-supervisory, bargaining unit position. The incumbent will work a full-time, flextime schedule. The position description number for this position is 467066. Relocation expenses will not be authorized for the person(s) selected under this vacancy announcement. The Library of Congress serves the Congress in fulfilling its duties and preserves and promotes knowledge and creativity for the benefit of the American people. It is the nation's oldest federal cultural institution and the world's largest library, with more than 158 million items in its physical collections (including books, manuscripts, prints, photos, film, video, and sound recordings) and over 37 million items online. Located primarily on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., the Library is the home of the U.S. Copyright Office, the Congressional Research Service (CRS), the Law Library of Congress, and the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled.Major Duties: The purpose of this position is to develop and manage the Library's onsite informal learning space. The incumbent oversees the daily operations of the Source conducts outreach efforts to engage youth and family audiences, managing activities programs and programs related to the informal learning space at the Library. Assist in planning, organizing, and managing the activities and daily operations of the Source for an informal learning space for youth and families. In consultation with Deputy Chief of ILO, develops volunteer and intern opportunities and coordinates with staff and volunteers to conduct and complete Source operations and activities. Provide the Chief and Deputy Chief of ILO with critical information, evaluations, reports, and/or recommendations that contribute to the effective operation of the Source. Assist in planning, designing, and evaluating educational projects and materials of the highest quality that meet established and/or proposed program objectives. Focuses on informal learning activities in the Source aligned with the strategic plan of the Library and the Center for Learning Literacy and Engagement. Collaborates with colleagues in ILO, Visitor Engagement, the Professional Learning and Outreach Initiatives (PLOI), Library services, and other relevant service units in the Library during the development phase and ensure alignment with the Center for Law, Energy & the Environment (CLEE) direction and approaches. Remains current on new technology and educational approaches. Helps optimize the use of existing resources and assists in planning for future resource needs. Serves as a recognized authority within the Library and to the public; in the development and implementation of major educational spaces at national level programs affecting large audiences with complex issues and challenges which are designed to meet specialized educational needs. These programs and projects often relate to learning in informal settings, literacy, and strategies for engaging young learners. Maintain established professional contacts with relevant practitioners, researchers, and others in the education and information science fields, museums, research organizations, and industry with whom the Library works on informal educational outreach initiatives. Develops and documents best practices in widely adopted implementations across the network. Serve as a liaison between key stakeholders and groups both internal and external to the Library for the Source operations and activities. Exercise delegated authority in accordance with Library regulations. In consultation with Chief and Deputy Chief of ILO, plans and executes major liaison activities supporting programs that impact many Library offices. Assist in developing and implementing plans designed to enhance relationships with targeted stakeholders. Assist in planning and conducting public meetings, briefings, and other constituent relations activities supporting the Source. As requested, assist to provide information for press releases and contributes to social media efforts related to Source programs and initiatives, and coordinates effectively with Communications Office officials. Collaborates with the Chief and Deputy Chief of ILO to provide advice and guidance on informal educational spaces for the Source. In collaboration with colleagues across the Library of Congress and CLLE partners to recommend short- and long-range planning guidance in accordance with broad program policies and objectives. Prepares guidance based on analyses of interrelated issues of effectiveness, efficiency, and productivity of substantive mission-oriented programs. Performs other duties as assigned.
