Summary This position is part of the Lake Valley Navajo School, Bureau of Indian Education. As a Principal Teacher you will be responsible to organize and manage a small school (e.g., special education, gifted and talented, elementary, middle school, etc.) that does not have enough resources to support a full-time Principal. This position requires SCHOOL YEAR CONTRACT per Public Law 95-561 and will require contract renewal on an annual basis. Bureau of Indian Education's mission - As stated in Title 25 CFR Part 32.3, BIE's mission is to provide quality education opportunities from early childhood through life in accordance with a tribe's needs for cultural and economic well-being, in keeping with the wide diversity of Indian tribes and Alaska Native villages as distinct cultural and governmental entities. Further, the BIE is to manifest consideration of the whole person by taking into account the spiritual, mental, physical, and cultural aspects of the individual within his or her family and tribal or village context.Major Duties: As Principal Teacher- CY-1710, your typical work assignments may include the following: The Principal Teacher is responsible for supervising and administering all programs and functions of a small school (i.e., instruction, food services, student transportation, recreational activities, residential, and special programs) due to limited resources to support full-time Principal. The incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the small school. Activities may include scheduling of leave; assignment of teaching areas or rooms, staff critiques or evaluations; ordering of supplies; budget preparation; scheduling professional services; developing curriculum; selecting adapted textbooks; attending school board meetings; teaching; etc. The incumbent provides instruction at the professional level, as a classroom Teacher, as a team Teacher according to the setting and organizational structure of the school. The incumbent supports the planning and implementation of educational initiatives; integrates new developments, research findings and best practices into ongoing programs; and identifies and develops appropriate curriculum and school-based assessments to support the academic growth of students.
