Sturgeon Lake School is seeking a Full time Cultural Language Instructor For the remainder of the 2025-2026 School Year then for the school year 2026-2027. The work requires the applicant to be fluent, both written and spoken, in English and Cree. The work is guided by the school curriculum and performed with some independence. Roles and ResponsibilitiesWork with the principal to develop long range plan, lesson plans and assignmentsProvide instructions aligned with the Coordinating and integrating Cree Culture in the schoolCreate and plan effective curriculum-based projectsIncorporate language games, formal language exercises and literature into classroom instructionModify instructional material considering age and development level of studentsProvide a morning prayer in CreeProvide Land- Based Teaching to studentsProvide input into short- and long-term strategic planning activitiesParticipate in special events and school celebrationsAttend relevant training to enhance your experience and knowledge of the programGather and prepare materials and content for Cree Language and Culture for required instruction and information presentations.Participate in parent/teacher conferences related to studentsContact elders and/or Knowledge Keepers when the need arises e.g talk to childrenPractice/ teach children about powwow, traditional drumming and singing, Hand games and Arts and CraftsThe scope of this role requires a dedicated focus; applicants currently holding similar positions elsewhere will not be eligiblePosition open to SLCN band members and non-band members Education:Post-Secondary Education Excellent oral and written communication skillsCandidates must be able to demonstrate a high level of technology skills of the following applications: PowerSchool, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Internet Search.Dependable & PunctualExcellent oral and written communication skillsStandard First AidNon-violent Crisis Intervention training is an asset Experience:Fluency in English and Cree, both written and oral is essential;Knowledge of Alberta Education system and Language programming;Strong presentation skills with the ability to develop and deliver instructional material;Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are required;Ability to build and maintain rapport and trust with students;Strong teamwork skills with the ability to work in partnership with the principal to plan and implement instructional activities. Your application should include·         Cover letter, detailed resume, three references with current contact information·         A current Criminal Record Check (including Vulnerable Sector Check), and cleared AB Intervention Check - both dated within the last six months
