Nunavut schools are currently focused on improving literacy outcomes for all students and ensuring students’ learning experiences are culturally relevant and respectful.Located in the picturesque hamlet of Cambridge Bay, Kiilinik High School serves the community of Cambridge Bay. The school has a population of approximately 220 students in a 7-12 setting with a staff of 24. The school and community are steeped in a rich history of Inuit culture.Required qualifications:Eligible for Interim Language/Cultural Specialist CertificateFluent in both English and Inuktut (written and oral)In the event that this competition becomes an open until filled posting, this position may be offered as a one year term under Letter of Authority. Desired qualifications:Experience working on K - 12 classroom settingsEvidence of courses taken towards educational certificationExperience and / or training with current assessment methodsEvidence of differentiated instruction and inclusive practicesExperience and / or training in classroom management practices and the development of positive learning environments (eg. Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports, etc.)Cross-cultural and/or northern teaching experienceEvidence of training and / or experience in the area of Balanced LiteracyTraining and / or teaching experience in an ESL environmentEvidence / experience building positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, stakeholdersPlease note: Subsidized housing is available but sharing may be required.The salary for an Aboriginal Language Certificate holder ranges from $78,206 prorated/annum to $94,389 prorated/annum.
