This 1.0 FTE position balances the art of classroom teaching with co-leading on the of our Work Integrated Learning (WIL) program.As a Teacher of Career Education, you are an expert in the B.C. curriculum, creating student-centered, inquiry-based environments where Senior School students explore their potential and navigate their post-secondary pathways.As a Co-Lead for Work Integrated Learning, you serve as a supportive mentor, helping students bridge the gap between their interests and the professional world. Working collaboratively with a fellow Co-Lead and other teams, you will help grow a community of opportunities by connecting with local businesses and professional offices. Your role is to guide students through the exciting process of discovering work placements, helping them build confidence through resume prep and mock interviews, and ensuring they feel fully prepared and supported as they explore their future career paths.The FTE breakdown between Careers and WIL will be determined.Responsibilities of a CHS Teacher:â Bring a student-centered, inquiry-based and collaborative approach to the delivery of the B.C. curriculum of Career Education (Grade 8 - 12)â Support the growth and development of individual learners through the delivery of the Crofton House School Advisory programâ Work as a collaborative and supportive member of the Career Education & Post-Secondary Counselling Departmentâ Build relationships with teachers and staff across the school communityâ Be an active and positive participant in the co-curricular programâ Be an active part of school meetings, events, and professional development, keeping a specific focus on fresh ideas and best practices in career education and post-secondary counselingâ Create a positive and supportive culture for learning Responsibilities of a Co-Lead, Work Integrated Learning:â Work as a collaborative and supportive member of the Career Education & Post-Secondary Counselling Team teamâ Collaborate with the Career Education teachers to support curriculum integration and student readiness initiatives, leveraging a direct connection to the student body to maintain a primary focus on student-facing programming.â Support with identifying potential work placements for CHS studentsâ Support with making connections with businesses and professional offices which support work placement interests of CHS students (may include travel to business/offices)â Support with expanding and refining the list of work placement opportunities available to CHS students.â Co-create the Career Exploration Opportunities CEO Canvas page sharing various volunteer, work, summer programming, networking etc.opportunies to the students school-wideâ Understand and communicate with students the nature of a potential work placement, the expectations, and any safety risks which must be managedâ Prepare students for work placement including assisting in writing a resume and/or cover letterâ Assist students to effectively respond to written application questionsâ Conduct 1:1 mock interviews with students and provide constructive feedbackâ Reflect on the work placement experience of students and make recommendationsâ Plan, host, and facilitate school assemblies, workshops, and community-wide eventsâ Track, organize, and maintain key data, ensuring accurate records to help the team monitor progress and report on outcomes Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience:â Essential: B.C. Ministry of Education Certificate or Independent School Certification qualification criteriaâ Relevant university qualifications (e.g. Bachelor of Education)â Experience as Career Education teacher at a senior school levelâ A comprehensive understanding of current educational practices outlined in the BC Ministry of Education documentsâ Experience with curriculum developmentâ Previous experience soliciting and coordinating work placementsâ Experience in an independent school, an assetâ Experience supporting or facilitating workshops, with a background in teaching writing skills or a strong willingness to learn the fundamentals of the post-secondary admissions process.â An awareness of the learning styles of girls and young womenâ Collaborative and energetic with a passion for teachingâ Committed to the craft of teaching, best practices, and standards of professional practiceâ Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skillsâ Energy, commitment and a readiness to participate in the co-curricular program the diverse life of the school community
