Nakoda Elementary School is seeking a nurturing, creative, and enthusiastic Kindergarten Teacher who is passionate about early literacy development, play-based learning, and creating joyful early learning experiences for young children.The successful candidate will create a safe, caring, and engaging classroom environment where children develop foundational literacy, numeracy, language, and social-emotional skills through exploration, inquiry, and meaningful play.Key ResponsibilitiesCreate a welcoming Kindergarten classroom that supports curiosity, belonging, and student engagementDeliver strong early literacy instruction through play-based, hands-on, and language-rich learning experiencesImplement literacy practices aligned with the Science of Reading, including phonological awareness, oral language development, vocabulary building, and foundational phonics skillsDesign purposeful learning centres that promote exploration, creativity, independence, and collaborative learningSupport the development of social-emotional skills, self-regulation, and positive peer relationshipsIntegrate Stoney language, culture, storytelling, and land-based learning opportunities into daily instructionUse observation, assessment, and early learning data to guide instruction and support student growthDifferentiate learning opportunities to meet diverse developmental and learning needsCollaborate with families, support staff, Elders, and school teams to support student successFoster a classroom environment focused on kindness, respect, and student well-beingQualificationsBachelor of Education degreeValid Alberta Teaching Certificate or eligibility for certificationStrong understanding of early childhood development and early literacy instructionExperience with play-based and inquiry-based learning practices preferredKnowledge of foundational literacy development and early intervention strategiesStrong classroom management and relationship-building skillsUnderstanding of Indigenous education and culturally responsive teaching practices is considered an assetPreferred Skills & ExperienceExperience teaching Kindergarten or early primary gradesFamiliarity with early literacy assessments and interventionsAbility to create engaging, interactive, and developmentally appropriate learning environmentsCommitment to collaboration, flexibility, and ongoing professional growthWhat We Offer Supportive and collaborative school environmentOpportunities for professional learning and mentorshipStrong focus on culture, language, and land-based learningMeaningful work supporting Nakoda students and families
