Position OverviewNakoda Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate certified teacher to lead a high-needs classroom supporting students with exceptionalities. The successful candidate will create an inclusive, supportive learning environment that prioritizes student integration, individualized learning, and the development of essential life, literacy, and numeracy skills.This role requires a teacher who is passionate about advocating for students, building strong relationships, and helping learners develop independence and confidence both inside and outside the classroom. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a willingness to engage students in outdoor and land-based learning opportunities and embrace and support Îyethka culture, identity, and ways of knowing as part of the learning environment.Key ResponsibilitiesPlan and deliver individualized and small-group instruction for students with diverse learning and developmental needsDevelop and implement Individual Program Plans (IPPs) and monitor student progressBuild foundational literacy and numeracy skills using differentiated instructional strategiesSupport the development of life skills, social skills, and independenceFoster meaningful integration opportunities with peers and school activitiesAdvocate for student needs and promote inclusive practices within the school communityIntegrate outdoor and land-based learning experiences where appropriateEmbrace and support Îyethka culture, identity, and community values within the classroom environmentCollaborate with education assistants, school staff, specialists, and families to support student successMaintain a structured, safe, and supportive classroom environmentUse assessment and data to guide instruction and programmingQualificationsValid Alberta Teaching Certificate (or eligibility for certification)Experience working with students with exceptionalities or high support needs is strongly preferredKnowledge of inclusive education practices and differentiated instructionWillingness to engage in outdoor and land-based learningRespect for and commitment to supporting Îyethka culture, identity, and community connectionsStrong classroom management and relationship-building skillsAbility to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teamsCommitment to student advocacy and inclusive educationWhat We OfferOpportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of studentsSupportive school and community environmentCollaborative team of educators and support staffEducational assistants and specialized educational assistantsLow student to staff ratiosOpportunities to engage in meaningful outdoor and land based experiences
