Nak'al Bun Elementary School is a First Nations school in beautiful Fort St. James. Our school has an average population of 160 students. We are located in a beautiful, new building complete with the latest technology and full, highly qualified support staff. We have small class sizes, averaging 20 students per class. Every class is a single grade throughout the entire school, and we support our students through ability groupings for reading and math. We also focus on teaching the local Carrier culture and language as part of our school programming.This posting is for a grade 3 maternity leave. Position Summary The Grade 3 Teacher in Nak’al Bun Elementary School plans, delivers, and assesses curriculum while deeply integrating local Indigenous language, culture, and land-based education. Can you foster a supportive, culturally safe environment tailored to students' needs while promoting academic achievement alongside cultural identity? If so, we would like to meet with you.   Key Responsibilities • Cultural Integration: Integrate elements of the Carrier/Dakelh language, history, traditions, and culture into classroom curriculum. • Curriculum Delivery: Develop and implement lesson plans based on Ministry of Education standards, adapted for local community contexts and diverse learning styles. • Pedagogy: Utilize experiential, land-based learning and traditional teaching methods. • Student Support: Assess student progress regularly, maintain anecdotal records, and create remedial plans to help students achieve potential. • Community Engagement: Actively participate in community events, engage with parents, and show a commitment to cultural awareness and professional development in Indigenous education. • Classroom Management: Establish a positive, safe, and respectful learning environment.  Qualifications • Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and a valid Teaching Certificate (e.g., BC Ministry of Education Certification). • Demonstrated knowledge of, and sensitivity towards, First Nations culture, history, and community contexts. • Proven experience working with Indigenous students or in a similar educational setting. • Willingness to learn the Carrier/Dakelh language. • Valid Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector Search).  Requirements • Resume/Cover Letter • Teaching Evaluations/Practicum Reports • Teaching Qualification/License (BC Teaching Cert/TQS card) • Transcripts upon request • 3 professional references and the ability to contact them • A commitment to the holistic (physical, mental, emotional, spiritual) development of students. • Familiarity with the TRC’s Calls to Action • Excellent communication skills for working with students, parents, and colleagues. • Ability to work within a team, including with Cultural Teachers and Elders.Successful candidates will be provided with a moving allowance, will receive a very competitive salary, will receive a comprehensive benefit package and have a group RRSP package. Please forward an updated resume, as well as all supporting documents.
