Our academic programming and wrap-around supports are aligned with the Longhouse Values of the Host Nations.  Position Summary: The Cultural Liaison (Long House) supports the heart of NEC’s cultural work by helping bring teachings, practices, and land-based learning to life. This role walks alongside learners, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and the Longhouse team to create spaces where culture is lived, shared, and honored.  Through drumming, singing, workshop support, and preparing cultural materials, the Cultural Liaison helps ensure NEC’s gatherings and activities reflect care, integrity, and the Longhouse Values of the Host Nations Main Responsibilities: • Support and co-facilitate land-based learning by helping plan activities, preparing materials with care, and walking alongside learners as they connect with the land. • Assist with drumming, singing, and cultural practices, bringing cultural presence to gatherings and helping create a welcoming space for expression. • Provide steady cultural support during workshops and activities by assisting Elders, Knowledge Keepers, facilitators and helping sessions run smoothly. • Welcome and support Elders, speakers, and cultural guests by upholding protocols, inviting guests, and building gentle, respectful relationships. • Prepare and organize cultural supplies and materials, ensuring activities and gatherings are set up with care, respect, and cultural integrity. Preferred Qualifications: • Lived experience, community knowledge, or training connected to Indigenous cultural practices, land-based learning, or related areas. • Ability to work respectfully with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, cultural guests, and community members. • Comfort supporting cultural activities such as drumming, singing, or land-based teachings within personal teachings and permissions. • Strong organizational skills and the ability to prepare materials and spaces with care and attention. • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, community-focused team. • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and comfort using digital tools for communication and coordination. • Valid BC Driver’s License and ability to travel locally to support cultural and community activities.
