Nakoda Elementary School is seeking a caring, energetic, and student-centred Grade 1 Teacher who is passionate about early learning, literacy development, and creating engaging classroom experiences through play-based learning and learning centres.The successful candidate will foster a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive classroom where students develop strong foundational skills through hands-on exploration, inquiry, collaboration, and meaningful relationships.Key ResponsibilitiesCreate a welcoming and engaging Grade 1 classroom environment grounded in play-based and experiential learningPlan and implement literacy and numeracy instruction using centres, small-group learning, and hands-on activitiesSupport early literacy development through Science of Reading-aligned practices, phonics instruction, oral language development, and rich literacy experiencesUse purposeful learning centres to promote independence, creativity, problem-solving, and social-emotional growthIntegrate Stoney language, culture, and land-based learning opportunities into classroom programmingBuild positive relationships with students, families, Elders, and community membersDifferentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and support student successCollaborate with school staff, Student Success teams, and support personnel to provide inclusive programmingUse assessment data to inform instruction and monitor student growthMaintain a positive classroom environment focused on belonging, engagement, and student well-beingQualificationsBachelor of Education degreeValid Alberta Teaching Certificate or eligibility for certificationStrong understanding of early childhood development and foundational literacy instructionExperience with play-based learning, learning centres, and inquiry-based teaching practices preferredKnowledge of differentiated instruction and inclusive education practicesStrong classroom management and relationship-building skillsUnderstanding of Indigenous education and culturally responsive teaching practices is an assetPreferred Skills & ExperienceExperience teaching in primary gradesFamiliarity with guided reading, phonics instruction, and early numeracy strategiesAbility to create interactive and engaging classroom environmentsCommitment to collaboration, flexibility, and continuous professional growthWhat We OfferSupportive and collaborative school environmentOpportunities for professional learning and mentorshipStrong focus on culture, language, and land-based learningMeaningful work supporting Nakoda students and families
