Position Details: 1.0 FTE, In Scope, ContractWe are a K-12 school with over 300 students with a strong focus on Cree langauge and cultural programming. We also have educational assistants for almost every class with one on one EA's. We implement a restorative approach to discipline with a great team of support, including a wellness team, land based education, Elders program and our own locally developed history curriculum (to name a few). We also have a VP for elementary and a VP for jr/sr high. Alexander First Nation Education, located 40 minutes northwest of Edmonton, is currently seeking potential candidates for the following position: Wellness Specialist  Description: The Wellness Specialist works with a multidisciplinary team to promote the educational success, adaptive behaviour, mental health, and well-being of children and families by providing timely behavioural analysis, modification, and coaching for families or allied professionals caring for children with suspected or diagnosed learning disability, developmental delay, or executive dysfunction.The Wellness Specialist nurtures collaborative linkages with community partners including education through consultation, liaison and coaching. This position requires knowledge and experience of evidence based therapeutic and educational theory and understanding of how to implement/put into practice.Develops and implements specialized individual treatment plans for children with learning disabilities, developmental delay, or executive dysfunction using a variety of treatment approaches with a heavy emphasis on effective, evidence based behavioural principles.Contributes as a member of a multi-disciplinary clinical team whose purpose is assessment, treatment, behavioural analysis, case review, therapeutic intervention and consultation.Develops and implements program planning through collaboration with community stakeholders and partners.Contributes to the development and use of performance indicators and other activities related to continuous quality improvement.Implements therapeutic models of individual, group as well as family therapyRequirementsCompletion of an Education degree or a degree in a related field (e.g. psychology, social work)3 -5 years practical experience in an educational or children’s mental health treatment setting with a particular emphasis on dual diagnosis, learning disability, developmental delay, and executive dysfunction.Excellent communication and problem solving skills and ability to self-reflect as it relates to working with a demanding environment.Excellent assessment and treatment skills.Excellent case management skillsStrong critical thinking skills.Strong grasp of the principles of evidence-based practiceExpertise and experience in the education, behavioural analysis and modification, strategy development and coaching families / allied professionals for children with dual diagnoses, learning disabilities, developmental delay, and executive dysfunctionRespect for other disciplines and an ability to work collaboratively with diverse interest groups.Child Welfare Intervention Sector check and vulnerable sector checkBenefits:We offer our employee benefit package that consists of health and dental benefits, life insurance, short term and long term disability, after a 3-month probationary period with AFNE.
