The SLCS Literacy Catalyst will implement and develop the Sturgeon Lake Central School Literacy program by co-creating with Sturgeon Lake Central School staff, students, and families a culture of reading that ensures strong reading instruction, excitement about books and a genuine love for reading. Sturgeon Lake Literacy Program Literacy Catalyst Responsibilities and Duties:Goals and InitiativesFacilitate professional learning communities (PLC’s) where catalysts and teachers work together to set individual SMART goals that support school-wide literacy initiatives. Assessment and EvaluationWork with teachers to conduct individual and school-wide assessments to determine the appropriate literacy interventions required. Provide and/or conduct additional assessments when more information is needed to determine necessary interventions. Literacy PlanningMeet regularly with the classroom teachers to plan literacy instruction that correlates with individual student needs and best practices. Model and/or team-teach new strategies and instructional approaches. InterventionProvide specialized instruction to struggling readers.Collaborate with teachers, literacy specialists, and other interventionists (Ex. Speech Therapist) to identify intervention groups.Teach targeted literacy intervention to 1-1 or small groups of students daily using research-based strategies and resources. (Ie Fountas & Pinnel Leveled Literacy Intervention or Balanced Literacy)Review student progress and adjust intervention as needed. (This support is in addition to regular classroom instruction). Resources and Professional DevelopmentProvide teachers with literacy resources to assist with specific student needs. Provide resources that support the Saskatchewan English Language Arts curricular outcomes. Ensure all literacy resources and instructional materials are systematically organized and maintained to promote ease of access and optimal utilization by educators. Other Duties:Establish a daily guided reading program for Grades 1-5.Investigate and recommend literacy initiatives for Grades 6-9.Meet with SLEA literacy consultant as necessary.Work with teachers and administrators to develop and continually refine a benchmark assessment system that provides information to teachers, administrators and parents about student progress in reading.Work with staff to develop effective K-5 reading intervention program, including selecting materials, advising teachers and monitoring programs.Provide overall coordination of academic interventions.Collaborate with the teachers to develop and implement plans designed to assist struggling readers.Collect and compile school literacy data as required, provide activity reports monthly to the Principal (These will be shared with the EAC) and interpretations as necessary to meet program requirements. QualificationsBachelor of EducationValid Saskatchewan Teaching CertificateClean Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector CheckFirst Aid/CPR certification (asset)Clean Driver license/abstract (asset) Please apply here:https://slfnedu.bamboohr.com/careers/92?source=aWQ9MTI%3D
