Bigstone Cree Nation Education Authority seeks a dynamic and passionate Physical Education teacher to inspire our high school students to develop healthy habits, sportsmanship, and a lifelong love of physical activity. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of physical education principles, diverse athletic activities, and experience coaching or instructing team sports. Hockey and volleyball experience are valuable assets. Key Responsibilities: â Curriculum Delivery: Plan engaging lessons aligned with the Alberta Physical Education curriculum, incorporating various individual and team sports, fitness activities, and health education components. â Hockey and Volleyball Expertise: Leverage your hockey and volleyball experience (if applicable) to design skill development activities, drills, and game strategies. If interested, coach or support extracurricular teams. â Skill Development: Teach and promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and development of fundamental movement skills and sport-specific techniques. â Health and Wellness Promotion: Educate students on the benefits of physical activity, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle choices. â Culturally Responsive Practices: Create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment that integrates Indigenous games, activities, and perspectives on health and wellness, where appropriate. â Differentiated Instruction: Tailor activities and instruction to accommodate varying skill levels, abilities, and cultural backgrounds. Provide adaptations and supports to ensure accessibility for all students, recognizing the unique needs of Indigenous learners. â Assessment and Evaluation: Assess student progress, provide feedback, and promote the value of self-assessment and goal-setting in physical development. â Safety and Supervision: Maintain a safe and supervised learning environment in the gymnasium, fields, and related sports facilities. â Mentorship and Guidance: Foster positive relationships, support student well-being, and encourage lifelong participation in physical activity. Potentially connect students with community athletes, coaches, or health experts.. â Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues, parents/guardians, and community partners to enhance student learning and promote physical activity initiatives. Qualifications: â Bachelor's Degree in Education with a specialization in Physical Education or Kinesiology. â Valid Alberta Teaching Certificate. â Demonstrated knowledge of the Alberta Physical Education curriculum. â Experience teaching high school Physical Education. â Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. â Strong coaching, leadership, and motivational abilities.Commitment to student safety, inclusion, and creating a positive learning environment. Additional Desired Skills: â Hockey and volleyball coaching or playing experience. â Experience in integrating technology for health and fitness tracking. â First Aid and CPR certification. â Knowledge of adolescent development and psychology. â Experience working in Indigenous communities or a demonstrated understanding of Indigenous cultures and perspectives on physical activity and wellness.
