 Posting#: S2604084(S)Posting Date: 04 Jun 2026Posting Close Date: 11 Jun 2026 12:00 PM (CDT)Category: Educational AssistantType: TERM CONTRACTDescription: Educational Assistant - American Sign LanguageLocation: Earl Oxford SchoolStart Date: 08 Sep 2026End Date: 29 Jun 2027FTE/Hours: 13.75 per week *Please note:  this position is combined with Competition S2604085 EA - Life Skills 2.75 hour.  Applicants are required to apply to both competitions. Purpose of PositionThe Educational Assistant - American Sign Language provides classroom support in the areas of one-on-one or multi-student support (special needs students requiring life skills assistance, e.g., hard of hearing or deaf) and teacher support, e.g., administration, as outlined in the job profile. Duties and ResponsibilitiesAre established by the School Principal within the parameters of the job profile. NOTE: Positions under the EA classification are subject to change based on student needs. Required QualificationsGrade 12 education or equivalent.Educational Assistant Certificate or 1 to 2 years related experience.Must hold American Sign Language (ASL) Certificate or demonstrate strong ASL skills.Demonstrated ability to follow standardized work methods and processes while working with children to support learning.Demonstrated ability to function in the language of classroom instruction.Demonstrated ability to function at the level of knowledge required of the students, e.g., in English, mathematics, etc.Effective basic reading, writing and mathematical skills.Demonstrated ability to work with hard of hearing and/or deaf children to support learning.Demonstrated knowledge and ability to provide personal and medical care to assigned students with intensive needs.Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Preferred QualificationsASL Certified InterpreterClass 5 Driver’s license.First Aid, CPR.Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.WHMIS training.Your cover letter must clearly indicate how you meet the required qualifications.Permanent CUPE employees presently on staff will be given early consideration, in accordance with COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT.Salary as per COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT.
