Education Assistant

Kipohtakaw Education Centre is a K-12 school with over 300 students with a strong focus on Cree langauge and cultural programming. We have educational assistants for almost every class with one on one EA's. We implement a restorative approach to discipline with a great team of support, including a wellness team, land based education, Elders program and our own locally developed history curriculum (to name a few). We also have a VP for elementary and a VP for jr/sr high. Alexander First Nation Education, located 40 minutes northwest of Edmonton, is currently seeking potential candidates for the following position: Education Assistant  Duties (but are not limited to):Work under the supervision of one or several teachers and as part of a multidisciplinary teamSupervise student in structured classroom and unstructured (hallways, recess, lunch hour) settingsAssist with preparing materials and clerical tasks as required·       Use effective instructional strategies to help student with lessons and assignments·       Observe and report student behaviour and progress ·       A positive attitude, excellent speaking and writing skillsMay supervise children during lunch and recess breaks or field trips·       Work in partnership with parents, communicating on a regular basis, and assisting with all school related activities·       Willing to work with other departments and agencies·       Assist in the preparation delivery of programs particularly those involving local content, Cree language and cultural programming.·       Take additional training related to complex needsQualifications:The ability to deal with the emotional and mental stress of working with a student or groups of students with complex needs The ability to interact with students and staff in a tactful, empathetic mannerA positive attitude, good speaking and writing skillsThe ability to take direction and work independently and effectively in a team environmentFlexibility, patience, sensitivity, tolerance, enthusiasm, creativity and imaginationA minimum of Grade Twelve, with Level 1 ECD and child related work experience
