Crofton House School is seeking an experienced elementary school educator to teach Spanish as an additional language in our Middle School (0.7 FTE) and to support the delivery of our bespoke Ivy Compass program for students in JK-Grade 7 (0.3 FTE). In addition to spending an engaging day with students who are genuinely interested in learning, thinking and playing, teachers are provided with dedicated work time as part of their daily schedule to plan and work collaboratively with others and to stay current in their field.Responsibilities - Spanish Teacher (Grade 6-7)â Create a warm and inviting environment in which young students can learnâ Teach Spanish as an additional language in our Junior School Middle School Program (Grade 6-7)â Implement the BC Curriculum for Spanish as a second language, with a focus on the application of the Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling approachâ Integrate Hispanophone culture into lessonsâ Establish lively, engaging classes with dynamic and interactive lessonsâ Consider the diverse needs of students in your planning and teaching, offering a range of entry points and extensions to accommodate the needs of individual learnersâ Attend meetings to collaborate with teachers to ensure student needs are metâ Utilize a variety of assessment techniques that allow for timely, transparent, and strength-based communication of learningâ Integrate meaningful technology into student learningâ In collaboration with colleagues, ensure continuity of language learning competencies in a vertical and horizontal manner across the Junior Schoolâ Provide supervision of students during non-instructional timeâ Establish a strong parent partnershipâ Engage in ongoing teacher professional growth Responsibilities - Ivy Compass Teacher (JK-Grade 7)â Work closely with a full-time Junior School Ivy Compass Teacher to plan and deliver integrated learning experiences from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 7 in the following areas:â environmental education,â student leadership,â service learningâ citizenshipâ Collaborate with classroom teachers to source opportunities to integrate Ivy Compass learning in classrooms as an extension of learning.â Assist with the organization and delivery of Outdoor Education trips in Grades 3-7, including tasks such as logistical planning, administrative organization, and communication with families and third-party providers.â Support with developing and maintaining partnerships within our community to support Ivy Compass learning experiences.â Other responsibilities may be determined as this role evolves based on candidate's strengths Qualifications, Knowledge, Experience:â Essential: B.C. Ministry of Education Certificate or Independent School Certification qualification criteriaâ Bachelor's degree or equivalentâ Native-like Spanish language skills (oral and written)â Proficiency in French an assetâ Understanding of how to support diverse learning styles at an elementary levelâ A comprehensive understanding of current educational practices outlined in the BC Ministry of Education documentsâ Experience and/or deep understanding of experiential learningâ Experience in an independent school an assetâ An awareness of the learning styles of girlsâ Collaborative and energetic with a passion for teachingâ Excellent written and oral communication skillsâ Demonstrated ability to be innovative, flexible, highly organized with attention to detailâ Energy, commitment, and readiness to participate in the co-curricular program and the diverse life of the school community
