Working within community-based programming, the Student Counsellor delivers accessible support to students in communities, fostering student engagement, well-being, and retention. The incumbent serves as a vital link between students and UCN, collaborating with academic and support departments. The Student Counsellor also builds and maintains strong relationships with external partners, including sponsoring agencies, Indigenous organizations, and community partners. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:• Bachelor of Social Work degree; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered• Minimum of two (2) yearsÂ’ Counselling experience• Excellent leadership skills• Strong interpersonal and communication skills• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team• Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS Office 365• Ability to manage sensitive information and maintain confidentiality• Strong time management and organizational skills• Ability to understand cultural influences and issues specific to adult learners in northern communities• Commitment to life-long learning ASSETS:• Previous experience working in a post-secondary environment• Ability to speak an Indigenous language• Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures Conditions of Employment:• Valid Class 5 driverÂ’s license; travel is required• Ability to work flexible hours• Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector check, Adult Abuse Registry Check and Child Abuse Registry Check• Must be registered or eligible to register with the Manitoba College of Social Workers• Candidates must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada Applicants are asked to provide a cover letter and resume with their application.
