(OES) is to support and guide Opaskwayak Cree Nation members in achieving their post-secondary educational goals. The counsellor helps students access educational opportunities, navigate admission and funding processes, and successfully complete their studies while promoting academic success, personal growth, and community development. Qualifications:· Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Counselling, Human Services, Indigenous Studies, Career Development, or a related field.· Combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.· Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point & ADP.· Counselling and/or interpersonal skills· Ability to speak Cree is an asset. Duties:· Advise students on college, university, trades, and other post-secondary programs.· Assist with applications for admission, sponsorship, funding, bursaries, and scholarships.· Monitor students' academic progress and provide ongoing support and encouragement.· Maintain student records/files and ensure compliance with funding policies and program requirements.· Liaise with educational institutions, funding agencies, and community partners.· Counsel new and continuing students throughout the course of their program of studies.· Assist students with budgeting, tutoring, applications, personal problems, and providing referrals for other assistance.· Approve tuitions and books billings.· Complete cheque requisitions and purchase orders for the finance department.· Establish and maintain contacts with university and college counsellors and /or student advisors to follow students’ progress and make recommendations for student improvement.· Other duties as assigned pertaining to job scope.
