 JOB OPPORTUNITY – SPECIAL EDUCATION TECHNICIAN Position SummaryUnder the responsibility of the school administration and in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, the Special Education Technician supports students with behavioral, emotional, developmental, social, and academic needs through direct intervention, educational support, individualized programming, and by carrying out intervention strategies and recommendations developed in collaboration with the professional team. Main ResponsibilitiesParticipate in the development and writing of individualized education plans (IEPs), select intervention measures to achieve established objectives, develop action plans, implement interventions, evaluate goal attainment, and participate in the review of the plan.Prepare, organize, and conduct educational, pedagogical, cultural, recreational, and sports activities aimed at developing students’ social, cognitive, psychomotor, communication, and other skills. Select, prepare, and adapt or create materials required for these activities. Collaborate with staff in planning and implementing educational activities, including supervised workplace practicums when applicable.Assist students with learning activities in class, including reading, writing, explanations of lessons, and homework support within the scope of their competencies.Observe student behavior and interactions with their environment, provide guidance, apply crisis intervention techniques to restore calm and order, support behavior modification processes, and assist teachers in maintaining a positive learning environment.Apply communication techniques adapted to student needs.Inform students about various disorders or dependencies and, when necessary, meet with them to provide advice, support, or referrals to specialized services.Supervise students who must temporarily receive instruction outside the classroom following disciplinary measures, support them with academic work, and collaborate with staff to plan their reintegration into the classroom.Accompany students with special needs during school transportation arrivals and departures when required.Record observations and interventions, maintain student files, and prepare detailed reports.Collaborate, when necessary, with youth protection services and external professionals when required, particularly in cases involving abuse or neglect, and support school administration in student safety procedures.Meet with students, parents, and teachers to provide advice, information, documentation, and referrals.Use computer systems and software required to perform job duties, documentation, and reporting. QualificationsCollege diploma (DEC) in Special Education or equivalent recognized training Language RequirementExcellent English communication skills (oral and written) requiredKitiganik School operates primarily in English. The student population and school staff communicate in English.
