Gitanyow Independent School (GIS) is seeking a passionate, caring, and dedicated Kindergarten Teacher to join our educational team. Located in the beautiful Gitxsan territory of Gitanyow, GIS is a First Nations school committed to providing a culturally responsive, student-centered learning environment that supports academic excellence, personal growth, and Indigenous ways of knowing.The successful candidate will foster a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom where young learners can develop foundational skills while building a strong sense of identity, belonging, and community.ResponsibilitiesPlan, implement, and assess a comprehensive Kindergarten program aligned with the British Columbia curriculum.Create a positive and nurturing classroom environment that supports the social, emotional, physical, and academic development of students.Integrate Indigenous perspectives, local culture, language, and traditions into classroom instruction.Develop and maintain effective classroom management practices.Communicate regularly with parents, caregivers, and school staff regarding student progress and development.Maintain accurate student records, assessment data, and report cards.Participate in school events, professional development, staff meetings, and community activities.Collaborate with colleagues, support staff, and administration to meet the diverse needs of students.Uphold professional standards as outlined by the British Columbia Teachers' Council and applicable legislation.QualificationsValid British Columbia Teaching Certificate or eligibility for certification through the BC Teacher Regulation Branch.Bachelor of Education degree with training in Early Childhood and/or Elementary Education.Knowledge of the BC Curriculum and current best practices in early learning.Experience working with Indigenous students and communities is considered a strong asset.Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.Demonstrated commitment to culturally responsive teaching and inclusive education.Current Criminal Record Check suitable for working with children.Experience with Readwell and Saxon Math Programs.Preferred QualificationsTraining or experience in Indigenous education.Knowledge of Gitxsan culture, history, and traditions.Experience working in a rural or First Nations school setting.Familiarity with literacy and numeracy intervention strategies for early learners.What We OfferCompetitive salary based on qualifications and experience.Comprehensive benefits package.Professional development opportunities.Supportive and collaborative working environment.Opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a First Nations community.
