Summary About the Position: This position is a 0472 Speech / Language Pathologist located at SHAPE ES. This vacancy is for the SY 26/27. All candidates must reside within the local commuting area where the position is located. Local commuting area is defined as the geographic area surrounding a work site that encompasses the localities where people live and reasonably can be expected to travel back and forth daily to work based on the generally held expectations of the local community. (5 CFR 575.203) Department of War Education Activity (DoWEA), as one of only two Federally-operated school systems, is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, and managing prekindergarten through 12th grade educational programs on behalf of the Department of War (DoW). DoWEA is globally positioned, operating 160 accredited schools in 8 districts located in 11 foreign countries, 7 states, Guam, and Puerto Rico. DoWEA employs approximately 15,000 employees who serve more than 72,000 children of active duty military and DoW civilian families. Applications submitted through USA Jobs will not be accepted.Major Duties: Implement the speech/language therapy services of the school and provides instruction, assessment, and program planning for students identified with a range of disabilities. Provide speech/language therapy to students with a variety of speech/language impairments. Collaborate with classroom teachers to facilitate application of therapy gains into classroom activities. Provide interventions to assist teachers in working with students with reading/writing difficulties Serve as an informational resource for teachers, students, parents, district personnel, and community organizations. Participate in professional development opportunities and committee activities to review, evaluate, and develop educational materials to improve the educational program. Inform school administration of education deficiencies, critical issues, and emergencies.
