Pittsburgh Public Schools is accepting applications for the following position: Special Education Teacher-Life Skills Support Location: Sunnyside K-8 Summary: The position of teacher is directly supervised by the School Principal and is responsible for effectively educating and supporting students by ensuring they are learning academically, developing strong character, and gaining skills that prepare them for college and career. The teacher is responsible for planning lessons that target specific skills, managing classroom behavior, and engaging students in lessons. The position of teacher cultivates student interest in education and incorporates culturally responsive pedagogy into their classroom. Minimum Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in education Certification/Licenses: Pennsylvania Department of Education Instructional Certification int the required subject area. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 1. A commitment to accelerating student achievement, eliminating racial disparities, and creating a positive school/district culture.2. Knowledge of child development in the age group of assigned position.3. Knowledge of current educational research and the use of current technology within the classroom to foster innovation.4. Ability to be a culturally responsive educator who knows how to leverage students' unique skills, interests, and learning styles to create a learning experience that unequivocally includes and empowers each and every student.5. Ability to manage the classroom, supervise students and provide a safe, nurturing environment that stimulates academic, moral, and social growth.6. Demonstrated skill in analyzing, diagnosing, and evaluating student data.7. Enthusiasm in making a difference in the lives of students.8. Proven ability to empathize with students and prepare them to achieve academic excellence and strength of character so they have the opportunity to succeed in all aspects of life.9. Commitment to encourage parent involvement through school activities and volunteerism which connects school and home.10. A Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint (Schoology, ESchools plus preferred)11. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.12. Ability to exercise a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, poise, tact and diplomacy to accomplish objectives.13. Enthusiastic about the fundamental goal of advancing student achievement in an urban public school district.14. Ability to work collaboratively as a team player, under pressure with multiple competing deadlines, and with culturally, educationally, and racially diverse internal and external customers.
