The Sahtú Divisional Education Council is seeking a highly motivated, intentional and culturally responsive leader who is committed to, and persists in, improving outcomes and improving student achievement, equity, inclusion and well-being.  Email teach@sahtudec.ca This position begins in September 2026 and the length of the term is to be decided at the time of hiring.  This position is located at Chief Albert Wright School in Tulita, NT.   Candidates should embrace strong connections with the community and engage fully in the rich cultural and extra-curricular life of the school. Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience- Must possess a Bachelor of Education degree (or equivalent) and be eligible for a Northwest Territories Teaching Certificate, and complete the NWT Principal certification. A Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum, or an area significant to education is preferred.- Minimum of five years experience as a teacher; preference will be given to candidates with teaching and/or leading schools in a Northern context.- Engages in instructional leadership - highly visible in classrooms and leading improvement in students' academic success in collaboration with the principal; sets high expectations for teaching and learning while providing support and leadership; Establishes visionary and collaborative leadership & communication with the District Education Authority in running the school.- Builds and fosters positive relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including students, staff, families and community members. - Demonstrates motivation and/or experience leading professional learning communities and developing teaching capacity at all levels; uses evidence and data to inform instructional leadership.- Engages in reflective leadership and grows as an agile leader, meeting changing needs in education, community and school governance. Works respectfully and collaboratively with all stakeholders to achieve goals aligned with the community and regional strategic vision for education.- Demonstrates flexibility, adaptability and resilience.- Understands and supports managing school operations and resources in collaboartion with the principal in a proficient way, inspiring confidence through transparency and reliability. Builds positive school culture through firm and fair demeanours, behaviors and actions.- Experience working in an Indigenous community and / or living in a remote community is considered an asset.
