About Gitanyow Independent SchoolGitanyow Independent School is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and culturally responsive Grade 2/3 Teacher to join our school community.The successful candidate will provide a safe, inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environment where students are encouraged to develop academically, socially, emotionally, and culturally.The teacher will work collaboratively with school administration, support staff, families, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and the Gitanyow community to support student success.Experience working in a First Nation or Indigenous school environment is considered an asset. We welcome applicants who demonstrate a genuine commitment to learning about and respecting Gitanyow culture, history, language, traditions, and community.Key ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will:• Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate instruction for Grade 2/3 students in accordance with the BC curriculum.• Deliver small-group literacy and numeracy interventions, including Saxon Math, Read Well, and Corrective Reading, to support students requiring additional academic instruction.• Create and maintain a positive, respectful, safe, and inclusive classroom environment.• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and abilities.• Assess student learning and maintain accurate student records.• Communicate regularly and respectfully with parents/guardians regarding student progress.• Support students' social-emotional development and overall well-being.• Build positive relationships with students, families, staff, and community members.• Incorporate First Nations perspectives, culture, history, language, land-based learning, and community knowledge into classroom learning.• Work respectfully with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, cultural workers, and community members.• Participate in Individual Education Plan (IEP) development and implementation as required.• Collaborate with educational assistants, learning support staff, administration, and other professionals.• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, school activities, parent meetings, and community events.• Support positive student attendance, engagement, responsibility, and respect.• Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, staff, and community matters.• Follow Gitanyow Independent School policies, procedures, safety requirements, and the direction of school administration.• Contribute positively to the overall school and Gitanyow community.First Nations and Cultural ResponsibilitiesThe successful applicant will demonstrate respect for Gitanyow culture, traditions, values, community protocols, and ways of knowing.The teacher will be expected to:• Build respectful relationships with students, families, and the Gitanyow community.• Demonstrate cultural humility and a willingness to learn.• Participate in appropriate cultural activities and community events.• Support the inclusion of Gitanyow knowledge and perspectives in classroom learning.• Respect the roles of Elders, Knowledge Keepers, cultural workers, and community members.• Recognize the importance of Indigenous identity, culture, language, land, and community connection in supporting student success.Knowledge of Gitanyow culture and/or language is considered a strong asset.QualificationsApplicants should have:• A valid BC Ministry of Education teaching certificate, or eligibility for certification.• A Bachelor of Education or equivalent teaching qualification.• Experience teaching elementary-aged students, preferably Grades 2 and/or 3.• Strong classroom management and student engagement skills.• Knowledge of the BC curriculum and assessment practices.• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a school team.• Commitment to inclusive and culturally responsive education.• Ability to establish positive and meaningful relationships with students, families, and community members.AssetsThe following would be considered assets:• Previous experience working in a First Nation, Indigenous, rural, or on-reserve school.• Knowledge of First Nations education and Indigenous pedagogies.• Experience incorporating land-based learning.• Knowledge of Gitanyow culture and/or language.• Experience supporting students with diverse learning needs.• Experience working with educational assistants and student support teams.• Training in trauma-informed practice, restorative practices, or social-emotional learning.Personal AttributesGitanyow Independent School is looking for a teacher who is:• Caring, patient, and approachable.• Reliable and committed to student success.• Culturally respectful and open to learning.• Adaptable and able to work effectively in a community-based school environment.• A strong communicator and team player.• Creative and enthusiastic about elementary education.• Committed to building meaningful relationships with students and families.• Respectful of confidentiality and professional boundaries.Criminal Record CheckThe successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check where applicable, prior to commencing employment.
